Why Donate

Home - Services

With your support we can continue to provide quality care and remain amongst the top rated nursing homes in Toronto.

(COSTING INFO MOST LIKELY OUTDATED)

It costs approximately $6.4M to operate Labdara annually. Labdara’s mortgage is $4.7M. Debt service payments total $582K annually. Our capital reserve fund is $583K and is a condition of the mortgage agreement.

Sources of funds for Labdara are: the Ontario Government Ministry of Health, resident fees, Bingo, bequests, and donations.

Ministry and resident funds pay for nursing, staff, programing, personal care, groceries, and accommodation needs of the residents but it is not enough to provide our residents with quality of life services or to cover contingencies the home may require. Government funding has not kept up with rising costs for staffing, utilities, repairs, maintenance and other operating expenses. Through careful management we balance our budget overall.

From donations to Labdara, the Board of Directors allocates funds for priority projects: capital replacement, computer and security systems, etc. Previous years donations have built the entrance portico, bought resident electric beds, mattresses and lifts, outdoor furniture and awnings, backwater valve for flood prevention, sunscreen shades for resident dining rooms and much more.

Our future priorities include upgrading emergency electrical capacity for food coolers and electrical bed plug-ins and a nurse call system. We will implement priority projects as funds raised allow us to do so. Our operating costs are ongoing and annual. Anything beyond day-to-day operations depend on your donations. Thank-you for your support, we could not do it without you!

At some memorial funeral services families request memorial donations to Labdara Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Leave a legacy: Remember Labdara

For many people who feel loyalty and affinity towards Labdara, it is important to continue that support and leave a legacy gift in their will. Making Labdara Foundation a beneficiary in your will helps sustain the continued quality improvements within the home for our residents. Your funds will continue giving to those still on their journey.

To learn more about how to make a contribution to the future of Labdara through a gift in your will, speak to your lawyer.

Options for Making a Bequest in your Will

There are several ways to make a bequest in your Will. Here are some examples of wording that you can discuss with your lawyer to help determine what is best for you.

1. A Dollar amount
“I direct my Trustees to pay or transfer the sum of $_________ to the Labdara Foundation.”

2. Percentage of your Estate
“I direct my Trustees to pay or transfer _______ % of the residue of my Estate to the Labdara Foundation.”

3. Residual beneficiary
“I direct my Trustees to pay or transfer the residue of my Estate to the Labdara Foundation.”

Thank you for considering the Labdara Foundation in your estate planning. We hope you are inspired to make a significant difference to the nursing home now and for future generations.

Your Gift of Shares to the Labdara Foundation is 100% tax exempt. Since 2007, gifts of shares to foundations like Labdara are 100% exempt from capital gains tax. If you own securities or mutual funds that have grown in value, you will pay capital gains tax when you sell them.

By donating them directly to Labdara Foundation you can eliminate this tax and also receive a Charitable tax receipt equal to the value of the securities or funds transferred.

You can also donate securities or funds through your will. Oftentimes the taxes owing on a final tax return are significant. This is an excellent way to offset these taxes and potentially increase the inheritance left to your loved ones.
