OUR HISTORY

For a number of years the Lithuanian Community Association of Toronto (LCAT) had been planning to build a nursing home near the Lithuanian Community House (“Lietuviu Namai”) on the parking lot at the intersection of Dorval and Edna streets just above the subway tunnel. However, too many problems delayed the implementation of this idea.
In 1997, when the Lithuanian Franciscan Fathers decided to relocate their College Street premises to a new west-end site near the Islington subway station, it became obvious that this might serve as a new location for the proposed nursing home and would spark an invigorated effort to proceed with plans for building a nursing home to serve the Lithuanian community. As a result, Labdara Foundation (at that time an arm of LCAT) and the Lithuanian Franciscan Fathers came to an agreement, whereby an 0.85 acre portion of land was to be leased to Labdara Foundation for 99 years for the purpose of building the nursing home.
On June 25, 2002, Labdara Lithuanian Nursing Home opened its doors to receive its first residents. The long-term care home is located across from the Lithuanian Franciscan Fathers’ Roman Catholic Parish of the Resurrection on the north side of Bloor Street West, between the Kipling and Islington subway stations. It has 54 single private rooms and 18 double occupancy basic rooms/shared washroom, that accommodate 36 residents, for a total of 90 beds. Currently there are no respite, isolation or non-licensed bedrooms at Labdara.” ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
